How in the world does a Mac lose it's universal shortcuts like CmdC (copy)?

Lost the universal copy/paste functionality. Had to manually add them back in to keyboard shortcuts. They don't work in every program. If I copy/paste a url from a browser, it doesn't paste into ANYTHING. What an absolute frustrating experience! The most common of functionalities went missing and now they don't work right. Really? Come on Apple! This is not what Mac users are used to out of Apple.

Run Disk Utility to see if the startup disk needs repairing.

You can also try a Safe Mode boot which deletes system caches that may help..

Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
    3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

Then try copy / paste keyboard shortcuts.

You are not talking to Apple.

To which group of Mac users are you referring? The ones who think that every Apple product they use or read about on the internet must be flawless at all the time or it means that Apple is not what it used to be, and is about to be put out of it's misery by the ghost of Mr. Jobs? Or the ones who know that while Apple makes some very nice technology, it's designed and more important, (mis)used by imperfect humans, and it therefore some times performs in ways less than perfect?

It is the nature of literally 100,000  I/O on the computer OS, errors happen. Don't feel too special

    Try restarting your Mac

    Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

    Try resetting the  SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

If still no love try reinstalling the combo update over the top of your existing OS X

Download OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 Combo Update

You can always restore your OS X prior to the malfunction using Time Machine if necessary.

Thanks! This solved all except pasting into Outlook. I blame that one on Outlook for Mac. Thanks for the great advice!
