Q: Can't change APPLE ID from xxx@yahoo.com to xxx@icloud.com

I created an account for my child a while back and used an @yahoo.com address.  I know I can use the @icloud.com

name for login, but I'd like to get rid of the @yahoo altogether.. any ideas?

Secondly, or alternatively, I wouldn't mind deleting this account, and creating the same one under the Family Sharing, but I'm afraid the ID wouldn't be available even after I delete it.

Thirdly, when I created another account for my child, I "accidentally" used the wrong birthdate.. which doesn't seem to let me change it.  She's actually not 13 yet... I'd rather start over with her as a Shared Family member.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Corey.

These Apple Support Topics should help.

Thanks, but I already used all those options.  When I try to change the default Apple ID to the @icloud.com, I get a message that says you cannot use an iCloud email for an Apple ID... which doesn't make much sense.

Also, having the age change being grayed out is not covered in that topic that was linked....

... and... it doesn't answer my question about deleting the account and starting a new one from the Family Sharing options.

Thanks for the reply, but this doesn't address any of the issues I outlined,

    C.

Actually it does, it needs an account other than a iCloud account for a rescue email, or else it wouldn't be a rescue if you had a problem with iCloud.

You can also contact Apple Support rep, who will walk you through it.

You cannot change an existing Apple ID to an Apple domain email address (@me, @mac, @iCloud)

Secondly, or alternatively, I wouldn't mind deleting this account, and creating the same one under the Family Sharing, but I'm afraid the ID wouldn't be available even after I delete it.

You can't delete it, and cannot reuse it, however, if you sign out of iCloud on your iPhone or Mac, then you will see an option to set up a new iCloud account. You can make the email address anything you'd like, and it will check to see if it is already being used. If it is not, then you will have an Apple ID that is an iCloud.com email address.

Thirdly, when I created another account for my child, I "accidentally" used the wrong birthdate.. which doesn't seem to let me change it.  She's actually not 13 yet... I'd rather start over with her as a Shared Family member.

For this one, you will want to contact Apple for help: ACCOUNT SECURITY SUPPORT

    Thanks for any suggestions,

    Corey.

The iCloud address is already an Apple ID, which is why you can't switch to it.

When you set up an Apple ID for a child under 13, you are also confirming legally, their age. This is to comply with COPPA. (http://www.coppa.org/)  This will be why you can't simply change it now.
