Jul 3, 2016 1:25 PM in response to FatMac>MacProby poorfish,That only worked as long as there was a chime - now there is no chime. And so no way to restart into EC from 10.68. Any thoughts?

So you're saying that when booting from cold there is no chime? At startup the Mac conducts a Power On Self Test (POST) and the bong confirms that the test was passed. The lack of a chime would suggest serious problems somewhere in the system before the OS loads.

Jul 3, 2016 2:56 PM in response to FatMac>MacProby poorfish,Yeah that was my thought also. Reset SMC and PRAM but still no chime. Cannot boot into Single User mode - Cmd-S does not work at startup. Can't run fsck. Can anything else to be done short of taking the mac in for repair? Or buying a new one ...

Jul 7, 2016 8:53 AM in response to buddysatby tomp66,same for me mac pro 2010 (old style) BUT - Problem solved with:desactivate Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/Digidesign CoreAudio.plugin

Jul 9, 2016 3:24 AM in response to tomp66by poorfish,Going to Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/ there is no such plugin as Digidesign CoreAudio.plugin - only an iSightAudio.plugin.
No joy. thanks anyway

Jul 9, 2016 3:42 AM in response to poorfishby tomp66,it's only there if a third party app install like protools (made by Digidesign) or similar left it there.
for whatever reason and believe me I tried everything - bar re-install to base el cap (I'm on beta 2 10.11.6 so messy to downgrade) on mac pro (last old shape) - and
this fixed the "won't shut down or restart finder (crash) only dock left" issue for me anyway.

Jul 9, 2016 11:07 PM in response to tomp66by Ken Kissaki,Hi Tomp66, have you find the solution for this ? this is very bad . it happen on my mac mini (late 2012) I tried to re-install, safa-mode, repair and any thing suggested , and no success. the only way I can shut down is from terminal command.
I have 2 macbook. one is very old macbook pro (2009 model) and the other is new macbook 12", both have no issue with the shutdown.
is Apple hearing this problem ?

Jul 12, 2016 12:26 AM in response to buddysatby vanishing ghost,So, finally in my case (iMac Apple Retina 27" end 2015) the troublemaker was the core in /Library/Application suppourt/Wacom too (like aforesaid) coming with the Wacom Bamboo installer. After deinstallation the Finder restarts/shuts down ordinarily.Unfortunately Wacom provides no update because the Bamboo tablet series is obviously outdated and was replaced by the new Intous-series. This is annoying Hope my info helps you.

Jul 20, 2016 3:53 AM in response to vanishing ghostby TYDYsails,Tried removing everything Wacom but it made no difference.
Not sure if mentioned elsewhere in the thread but this problem also affects updates that require a restart. iTunes 12.4.2.4 appears to have been installed four times according to App Update over the last two days.
