Run this command in Terminal to determine where the users home folder is located:

    dscl . read /Users/unpeelable | grep "NFSHomeDirectory"

Then, see if you can unhide the user with:

    dscl . change /Users/unpeelable IsHidden 0

    Try,

    dscl . create /Users/unpeelable IsHidden 0

Based on the previous output, someone created that user and made it hidden, even moving the home directory to /var.

Have you ever allowed someone access to your Mac, either physically or through screen sharing, teamviewer, or something like that?

You can browse the home folder by using Go to Folder in the Go menu in Finder (cmd-shift-G).

Paste in this path and click Go:

    /var/unpeelable

As the Library folder could be still hidden, you can use this path to view it. Look in the LaunchAgents folder and LaunchDaemons folder to see if there are any files.

    /var/unpeelable/Library

    i guess i did it:

The folder “unpeelable” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.

Did the second try to unhide the user work?

If so, it should be in the Users & Groups System Preferences. You should be able to delete it from there.

In the question it is not stated by the user that the computer was lost & guest signed in . how can any one assume the computer was lost . yes find my mac in iCloud must be checked in .

This question has two answers the first solved by community specialists & other if any guest comes at users place & the person gives permission to sign in , they can use the computer , but when they are away they can be removed by going to users & groups selecting guest user account & clicking on minus sign .

Yes, it is Ok if you don't have permission. That is normal. Users don't have permission to view other user's folders.

    Did you run this command:

    dscl . create /Users/unpeelable IsHidden 0

Please run this command and post the output:

    dscl . read /Users/unpeelable | grep UniqueID

With that UID, I don't think it will show up in the Users & Groups panel to delete, so you'll have to delete it manually. But, I don't know if just deleting it will remove the Other option from the login window.

The Other option is so that you can log into your "other"users which do not show up in the list.

If you think you created this, do you remember what tutorial you followed?

Do you want to delete this user account?
