Q: how do I switch on automatic log in to mac book pro upon start up?
I simply want to switch on my 2010 Macbook Pro without having to keep signing in. I only use it to watch films & t.v. on mainly, & as it's one of the big 17 inch MBP's I don't take this one out of the house these days. In system prefs the option to automatically log in is greyed out even when you unlock the padlock, & I've been in both the users & groups pref and the security & privacy prefs. So I can't switch it off. Strangely enough, I don't have this problem with my up to date Macbook! Can anyone help? Thank you!
p.s. I'm running on Mac OS X El Capitan X.11.5.
MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), An Excellent machine & I love it!

Hi leroy. I did change the password from my iCloud password to one I made up just for this mac. It hasn't solved the problem though. I can't use the original repair disk that came with this mac to restore anything because since downloading the El Capitan software in update, it has made this disk obsolete & so disk utility is now very different to the original.
