Q: Trying to install OS X from original discs
Hi,
I have a 2008 Mac Pro Desktop that came with Snow Leopard installed. I am trying to reinstall the OS from the discs that came with the machine. I have erased and reformatted my hd and then boot with disc 1. Everything seems to me going along just fine until the Mac restarts and asks for disc 2. I put in disc 2, but the optical drive will not spin up. I'm not sure if it can't read the disc or if it is something else. The disc looks fine, surface wise. Now, I'm stuck!
Any suggestions?

Those appear to be the original install disks.
10.5.x is Leopard
10.6.8 is Snow Leopard.
I suspect either the
- drive lens is dirty. Try cleaning with a cleaning disk
- the disk is damaged.
I would also try cleaning the lens and then try reinstalling starting with booting from disk 1.
