    Hello humble narrator,

Thanks for joining us at the Apple Support Communities.  I understand you'd like to charge your iPhone 5c using your iMac.  It's convenient to charge your iOS devices using your Mac and I'm happy to show you how.

First you'll want to plug the USB into a USB port on the back of your iMac.  Then you'll want to plug the Lightning connector on the other end into the Lightning port on your iPhone.  As long as the iMac is turned on, it should recharge your iPhone.

The following article has a little more in depth information:

    Charge and monitor the battery

    In particular:

You can also charge the battery by connecting iPhone to your computer, which also allows you to sync iPhone with iTunes. See Sync with iTunes. Unless your keyboard has a high-power USB 2.0 or 3.0 port, you must connect iPhone to a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port on your computer.

Important: The battery may drain instead of charge if iPhone is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode.

    Take care,
