Q: Apple Motion freezes when creating new bezier points on masks

Hi Folks,

Having a problem with Motion (5.2.3).

When using the bezier tool whilst creating masks, about 7/10 times it crashes without saving when creating a new point.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?

Thanks

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

I'm not seeing a problem. How many points are you using in your mask? Are you right clicking on the line and selecting Add Point or double clicking on the line when it crashes? Are you starting with a shape, Bezier or B-Spline?

It's when using a custom shape with the Bezier.

On a fresh project there's no problem, but after i've been working for a while, part pay through the project if I need to add a new point, no matter which way round i do it, it just crashes and quits!

Are you trying to add a point *in time*? Like a keyframed addition?

Yeah, so lets say I'm tracking an object and 2000 frames in I need a couple of extra points, I add them and it just quits without warning or saving.

    That would explain it...

Start from the frame you need the most points on, then as you track/animate the points, just move the extras out of the way as best as possible. Motion does *not* react well to control point changes (additions or subtractions) under animation (at any size—and never has). You can track backwards and forwards from any frame, it is not necessary to start from the beginning.

Thanks! I'll just over-do the points from the start in future. A pain but maybe something they will address in the next version!

    Thanks for your help (:
