Jul 10, 2016 9:25 AM in response to Mindy Schwartzby lllaass,Here are USA educational prices for MBPs
http://www.apple.com/us-hed/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro
Here are regular prices
http://www.apple.com/us-hed/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro
A new Mac will come with El Capitan, 10.11.x. likely 10.11.5.
A current MBP will run 10,10.3 or 10.10.2 depending upon the model.
OS X versions and builds included with Mac computers - Apple Support
However, you will need to have previously purchased 10.10.5 since it is no longer available from the Mac app store and you will have to boot from other than the 10.11 internal disk to downgrade to 10.10.5

Jul 10, 2016 9:39 AM in response to Mindy Schwartzby Michael Black,In the USA at least the education discount is a set $100 off the normal pre-tax list price of any MacBook Pro. However, if your school has an institutional-specific Apple Store, there may be further discounts or incentives on specific configurations (e.g. some institution-specific stores may be able to offer 3 years of AppleCare extended warranty, instead of the normal 2 years extra coverage). So check if your College or University has its own Apple Store listed and see what that may offer.

Jul 10, 2016 11:09 AM in response to Mindy Schwartzby leroydouglas,Education discount is $100, You have to use the education link, associated with your University.
You get better discount if you buy Clearance/Refurbish link. http://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals
Many of these are open boxes, returns—all go through Apples service diagnostics and carry the same 1 yr guarantee.
I have had very good luck with all my purchases through the Refurb, MBP's, Airport Extreme router.
