Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

Nothing is invincible, but the iPhone is as close as it gets. Remember, the FBI paid $1 million to hack one iPhone. It would have cost nothing to hack an Android phone.

My daughter has the same issue.  If you look very carefully along the lines of the phone, you can see there is a slight bending.  Apparently this can effect the logic board inside the phone.  Either a component is broken or loose (which accounts for intermittent issues,) and the solution may be micro soldering.  There are a few phone repair outfits that can do this, but call ahead and ask if they have a qualified micro solderer who is a board expert.  Hope this helps.

It's unbelievable how high you are drinking the Apple Kool-Aid. My iPhone 6 Plus was so secure even I couldn't unlock it in the end once the screen stopped working completely.

Correct. Your device was behaving as expected for a one with a nonfunctioning scree.

Like many other users with this problem my phone had issues with the connections of the touch IC chips to the motherboard. I had it repaired (replaced both IC chips) for $160, including insured shipping both ways, by a place in Southern California.

Of course this will void your warranty, but my phone was out of warranty by about 6 months anyway.

I just came back from the Apple Store in Palo Alto, CA

Alicia Obiacoro, Senior Manager, was really nice and offered me to get my iphone 6 Plus 64 GB repaired for 350$ or get a trade-in phone with a 225$ credit.

I'm amazed by such generosity from Apple.

She acknowledged this is a known problem and understood my frustration but she could'nt make any better offer to me today.

I of course declined the offers as I've decided to open a class action against Apple for this "known" issue.

I will post the link if anyone else wants to be on board with me.

    Thanks

Of course this was always going to go to a class action. As a corporate entity Apple's responses to this kind of issue is usually woeful. Presumably they take the view that it costs them less if they ignore an issue then deal with a class action. This issue has happened to me on two Iphone 6 plus units.

I also am having a problem recently with this issue. My phone is 1.5 years old and has started to have intermittent unresponsive issues with the screen. I have tried just about all I can do resolve it, but nothing has worked. I made an appointment at an  repair center and will be asking for a replacement as I cannot receive calls at times. I do hope they comply as I have paid for the extended warranty.

I must say, I am nothing but disappointed with  and their products recently. Nothing but problems I have had in the last two or three years. Before that I had nothing but praise for them.

The iPhone 6 Plus and the iMac that I am using. Both purchased within two years.

You may buy from any company you prefer, you are not compelled to use Apple. It is a free choice, you may use it.
