Q: iPhone 4S WiFi Grey Out

Hey, so after a year of using my iPhone 4S my wifi on the device suddenly gave up on me. At first it started randomly disconnecting from the current wifi network that it was connected to. That would happen rarely maybe 1 to 3 times in a month, but after couple of months or so it would disconnect from the wifi network and lose the ability to find wifi networks. Meaning that it could not find any wifi networks until I restarted the device. This continued for quite sometime and was not much of a problem because it happened once in a while. Then one day it got disconnected from a wifi network and I restarted the device. After restarting it the wifi icon in the control panel greyed out. It still had the symbol of wifi in it thought and so I restarted the device again and it was fine. Now this happened quite regularly for a few days, until the icon completely turned grey. It became a dark grey circle with nothing inside. No matter how many times I restart the device the wifi will not turn. I tried to force restart the device but that did not work, also I even reset the whole network settings which did not work too. I erased the whole device from iTunes and that did not fix it too!!! This problem also started after I upgraded the phone to IOS 9.0. I have searched the web for different types of solutions but it either involves the iPhone being heated by a hairdryer or being kept in a refrigerator for 30 or more minutes. I don't think these are very good methods so please can anyone help me fix this problem!!!

PS: If a picture is needed I can provide you with that too

Thank You for reading this and for your help.

    Hi Azman3456,

You seem to have done most of the troubleshooting on your own. When you restored the device to its factory settings, did you set it up as new or did you restore your information from a backup?

If you restored it from a backup, I would advise you to try to restore it again and set it up as new.

When a device is restored to its factory settings and set up as new and the issue comes back, it means there is a hardware issue. You can go to your carrier, to an Apple Store or to an Apple Authorized Service Provider depending on the country you are in, or call Apple to set up a repair with a delivery service if it is possible in your country.

Try the steps in the article below.

If Wi-Fi is grayed out or dim on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If they don't help set up an appointment at an Apple Store as the issue is likely hardware related. And please don't use the hair dryer or refrigerator methods, they are likely to make matters worse.

    Hey Bakhtina,

Well I did not restore my information from a backup. I did not have much valuable information on the device and most of the apps that I used don't take that much time to download or even download on iTunes and upload it to the iPhone itself, so I did not restore it from a backup. And yes the problem still occurred after the fresh restore of the device.

Well I tried those steps and the Wifi still did not seem to work as I have the newest version of IOS. Thank you for your reply and I will set up an appointment at an Apple Store. Hopefully they will fix the problem.
