Q: Why is iCloud asking for my device login password?

Just changed my macbook air user account login password and then iCloud started asking me to enter my new user account password, to continue protecting data stored in iCloud.  So, this is a new thing, I have been using iCloud for several years and haven't seen this.  Why would apple/icloud need my device user account password?  So, I called applecare and they explained it was because I had turned on apple's two-factor authentication (not to be confused with two-step authentication).  They assured me apple cannot access my device passwords.   Guess we should just trust them.   Does this seem insecure to anyone else?  Every time I change any of my device passwords I (we) must give them to apple also, if you want to use two-step authentication.  Just a thought.
