If you have already set up iCloud contacts or iCloud backups, the sync or backup will be automatic. Of course, the device needs to be connected to the Internet. For an iCloud backup, it will also need to be plugged into power.
If you don't remember if you were syncing your contacts with iCloud, sign in at iCloud.com to find out. If your contacts are there, you did set up iCloud syncing. If you don't remember if you were syncing your contacts using another internet account, sign in to the corresponding website to find out.
Examples of Internet accounts which allow contacts syncing :
- A Microsoft account (@hotmail.com, @outlook.com, @live.com, etc.)
- A Google account (@gmail.com)
- A Yahoo account (@yahoo.com, @yahoo.fr, etc.)
If you have already set it up to backup to your computer with iTunes automatically, you can try to plug the iPhone into that same computer.
If you have not set up contacts syncing or backups before, I'm sorry. The whole point of the passcode is to protect the information on your iPhone, including the contacts, so it is not going to let you perform a backup or sync the contacts if you haven't set it up before.
