    won't run on 10.2, need to.6?

For years I ran Office 2004 on a 2003 PowerMac G4 tower that shipped with OS 10.3 and was later upgraded to 10.4 so I think something else may be afoot. Any iBook G3 with a Firewire port will run up to Mac OS 10.4.11 "Tiger."

    This Microsoft support document:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/871018

indicates your computer hardware meets Office 2004 requirements but you will need the 10.2.8 upgrade that Niel recommends.

If you are at the base level OS 10.2.3 that most installers create, you may need to do a stepwise upgrade. A number of us in the OS 10.2 days found making the jump from "base" to "current" caused problems. This is the stepwise progression we used with success:

    Start...........10.2.3

    1) Apply standalone updater to 10.2.4 (source: Mac OS X 10.2.4 Update: Information and Download )

    2) Apply standalone updater t0 10.2.6 (source: Mac OS X 10.2.6 Update: Information and Download )

    3) Apply combo updater to 10.2.8 (source: Niel's link )

It takes longer but gave better results in the long run. You may also wish to look for Tiger retail disks. It was the best of the pre-Intel Mac OS versions and you have the HD space and RAM to run it. 10.2 always had too much of a "still in beta" feel to me.

Hey  more success than previous attempts. I got the images on a hd, connected via firewire, and they appeared, opened and began install on 10.2.4 and then was greeted with you cannot install this software on this disk, This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.???? Plenty of space, 10.2 installed. Was there an update to 10.2.3? That was not installed. Thought we were going to be home free, but not yet. Thanks for the help so far. Slow in reply as trying to get ready for new school year as science teacher, setting up room with apple tv to use airplay, Apple TV and overhead projector to smart board.

Since I still have the original 10GB disk, shame there is no merge/import as we have now with the later versions off the previous system, or I might be blind and just not able to see it?

    Thanks,

    Alan
