Q: Macbook Pro does not turn on?
Hey all,
I was given a Macbook Pro (A1398, 2013) to play around with.
The user who gave it to me said it stopped working, and decided to give it to me for free.
I want to repair this and get it up and running.
I push on the power button and nothing happens. No fans.
Steps of troubleshooting:
It seems that the MagSafe lights up properly. Orange for charging, and after one night leaving it charged, green to indicate it's full. Now it's green, or if I unplug the battery pin, yellow. I left it uncharged for a while, and now the charger is back to yellow (natural discharge). Seems to indicate the battery sensors are okay.
Since the MagSafe lights are on, I tried to see if an SMC reset can do the trick. I press the commands, the MagSafe changes from yellow to green for a few seconds, and goes back to yellow to indicate a successful SMC reset. Power up, still no go. This at least tells me my power button is functional and/or recognized.
Tried looking for power pads. I couldn't see it over here: http://www.laptoprepairblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/MacBookPro-15-Retina- Mid-2012-Early-2013-mb_thumb1.jpg
Nevertheless, I still bothered to unplug the keyboard. I tried pin 5 to ground (at least, I think it was a ground) with the screen open. I saw a spark on the keyboard connector, maybe I accidentally touched 4/5 together + ground. Is this bad?
I was also able to feel the Samsung ssd while I was performing this operation. It definitely felt warm, so something is going on.. I think.
What other steps can I try to see what is the bottleneck?
Thanks!
