I charge my iPhone during the night again up to 100%, no matter if there is still 50% or more of the battery life left.
Use the original adapter and USB cable that came with the iPhone, and you will be sure that the battery will not be damaged by charging.

I Have considered the apple tips on charging the battery to 100% once in A month.
Apple no longer recommends doing a complete charge cycle once a month. Plug your phone in and charge it when it needs it or when you have time and don't worry about it. It's a good idea to plug your phone in at night, connected it to WiFi and lock the screen so that, assuming you have iCloud back up enabled, it backs up your phone every night.
