Q: My Messages won't send/receive pictures with iPhone 6 v9.3.2 or iMac OS X El Capitain 10.11.5

Hello there!

Out of the blue, my iPhone 6's Messages started to bug with not sending/receiving pictures, same thing with Messages on my iMac. Funny thing is that it works sometimes and sometimes not, under the same environment, and sometimes it gives me the Not Delivered message and my friend at the other end receives the picture. Here's an exemple of the message that appears :

Not Delivered ! and the Tap to Download message that stays

Tried those troubleshooting with no success :

iPhone

- turning off iMessage and turning it back on

- reset network settings

- force restart with home button and on/off button

- erasing conversations et starting new ones

iMac

- turning off iMessage and turning it back on

- erasing conversations et starting new ones

- erasing all contacts and re-importing them

- erasing all the Attachment image files here ~/Library/Messages/Attachments

Also, as a last solution I read that some people back up their iPhone and restore from the backup. I would assume it's a good solution, but since the problem is also on my iMac don't know how this would resolve the problem on both ends by restoring my iPhone only...

Please help me! :-)

Antoine

Same problem with me, on the iMac, the iPhone and the iPad.  Like you, out of the blue (in the past week or so.)

With luck will be talking with Apple Care people tonight, and see if I can track down a solution.  I'll post if I find one.

    Beyond annoying.

Everything came back to normal today, out of the blue again. Didn't do anything, no synchronizing or so...

All I can see is that they fixed something on iMessage servers?

In the pass few days I was able to send and receive pictures via iMessage but only on LTE ou 3G, not on any Wi-Fi (home or else where).

Please keep me informed, curious of what Apple Care will say.

    Thanks!

Good for you!  I've been thinking it was an Apple server issue, too, as The Man has had no trouble at all, and mine all fail.  I'll post back, if I get anywhere.  Cute puppy, btw...

    Hi,

Here just test it, from iPhone 6S to iPhone 4S.

Send the first time  ☞     failed.

Send a few second later   ☞    it is OK.

I spoke for an hour with a 2nd-level AppleCare engineer last night about this issue.  We went (again) through all the obvious things, like logging out, rebooting, etc.  We got the phone out of iMessages, and I could send a photo via MMS without a problem, and so had tagged it definitively to an Apple issue, on all 3 of my devices.  He could see no problem as he watched what I was doing with my account.

His take was that this was "definitely on the server level, either account-related or server-side."  We took a data capture of an attempt to send a photo, which he has forwarded to their engineering dept. and I should hear back in a couple of days.  I would say for at least some of us, that this is definitely NOT something obvious, or that we could solve on our own.  But if it's a server issue, it may just miraculously clear up, as they identify problems...

I'll post back when I hear something further.

Thanks! Seems to be as we thought, on the Apple servers...

    Hi,

I've been having this problem recently too.  With iPhone, iPad and iMac.  Pictures in Messages won't send or receive over my WiFi and the pics won't update in the shared section of the Photos App.  But when I turn off my home WiFi (EE) and use my iPhone's Personal Hotspot (O2) everything works perfectly.  I'm starting to wonder if this is an EE problem but it's unclear how many of the previous contributors are with EE.

Leaving my wifi (not EE) did nothing to help this issue for me.  I had the 3-day callback from the Apple engineer, with no current solution.  He said they still expected to hear back from their engineering section within the next couple of days.  Will update here.  No improvement for me, over this time.

Finally heard back from Apple, and they asked for more information (so probably NOT just a server setting somewhere.)   I had to bring each device up to the current rev, 9.3.3 for iOS as of Tuesday, I think.  Since the problem occurs on all 3 of my devices, they focused on the iPhone.

We installed a profile for them to track, turned on a series of log files, then tried to send a photo.  I have experienced that the "Sending" message in iMessage stops approx. 90% across, sits there for 15 minutes, and then returns with the standard "Not Delivered" note in red.  We waited for that, and then 5 minutes afterward, eventually dumping and sending Apple the log files.

Again, I'm hoping for an answer by the weekend.  My experience with this situation is now at approximately 2 weeks.  Hoping others have had theirs clear up.

This morning I reset the DNS to the Google one (8.8.8.8) on the iphone and ipad, and my photos went fine.  Stupidly, I had not tried to send them BEFORE I reset the DNS.  I set them back to the original, and they still went fine.  My iMac is also sending the photos fine, and I did nothing to the DNS for the Ethernet connection.

So.  I'm still going to contact Apple again and see if they made any mods.  I am hesitant to believe that DNS was the solution here, and think it was still probably a server-related issue which was resolved after a couple of weeks when Apple bounced their box and things reset.  I will update this thread with their feedback.

Just glad the photos are now going.

On another note, The Man is now unable to send any iMessages from his Mac (photos or text), but can from his phone.  I am making the "scream" face.
