Q: The podcast is not included in the iTunes Store podcast directory. An error occurred attempting to play an episode in the podcast.

I have run my feed through multiple validators with no errors. I have submitted the feed to podcastconnect two times with the same error. How do I go about troubleshooting this issue?

    I validated the feed in Podcasts Connect successfully, and the top episode (which is what they check) media file is OK. As far as I know they don't check the others but I did try a couple more and they were OK. However when I subscribed to the feed in iTunes it was unable to access it, although I had no problems in Firefox (my default RSS reader).

     

    I can't really make any sense of this. If the Store couldn't read the feed the error message would say so, not what you saw, and in any case as I say Podcasts Connect was OK. iTunes says it had difficulty downloading the feed and gave 'Error 504'.

     

    Other people have in the past had this specific problem, as discussed here (though that was a submission rather than a subscribing problem) -

    It was suggested there that it was a temporary server problem and the poster was advised to try again after a day or so - this worked, so it's the best advice I can give you with your problem: give it another try from time to time and hope it sorts itself out.
