Q: Office 365 calendar items change to meeting requests

I have been using my iPhone for years and syncing with a local (on premises) Exchange 2010 server.  Just last week, I upgraded to Office 365 with online Exchange 2013.  I am still using the default Mail and Calendar app on my iPhone.  However, I have a problem where my calendar appointments are being "converted" into "meeting requests" whenever I edit the appointment on my iPhone.  It is very annoying.

Here are the exact steps to duplicate this problem:

1. Create a calendar appointment inside of Outlook.  (I have tried this on both 2010 and 2016 with the same result).

2. Wait until the appointment syncs to your iPhone.

3. Open the appointment on the iPhone and change the START TIME.  Just move it ahead 1 hour.

4. Wait until it syncs again.

5. Now open the calendar appointment inside of Outlook, and you will see that it is now set as a "meeting request".

6. The only way I have found to fix it is to click "Cancel Invitation" inside of Outlook and then save the appointment again.

This is causing some real headaches!

I have tested this EXTENSIVELY, and the above steps cause the problem to occur every time.

I have also tried the same scenario with an Android phone (using the built in calendar app) and it works fine.  It does not cause the weird meeting invitation to occur.

I have also tried using Outlook for iOS, and it works fine with that app.

So this definitely seems to be affected ONLY by the default iOS calendar app.
