Q: OSx gone after installing Bootcamp!!

Hello. Recently I installed Bootcamp. Everything seemed to go well, until I noticed that after a while the Recovery HD partition disappeared. I have no clue what I did or what I messed with, but it's gone... Only after that OSx vanished, and now I'm stuck on Windows. I really, really, really need help!! I have important files on my OSx and I cannot afford losing them! Please help!!

Thank you...

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Can you boot in Internet Recovery - Command+Opt+R? Please use a wired connection, if possible.

Yes, I am able to do that. What should I attempt from here?

Oh I tried my luck with installing a new OSx from there. Did not work as it only offers mountain lion and I have El Capitan. I cannot afford deleting my data either

Yes, it reinstalls the OS that your Mac shipped with. From there go to the Mac App Store > under Purchased tab and reinstall El Capitan. I'm wondering if you installed windows over OS X? They should be on separate partitions. The first partition needs to be formatted for OS (Extended) GUID partition scheme. If you do this you will have to erase, format and install, but it may be your only option.

    Thank you for the reply!

It doesn't let me install osx anew, as it doesnt let me 'downgrade' it seems. I could delete the Partition, but I really, really need files and applications that are on that version. I dont think I installed it over OSx. Bootcamp and OSx both worked fine for a while, but on Windows I noticed a "Recovery HD" partition, which I formated and used to add onto my windows partition instead. I thought it must have been leftovers from some installers or something as it was only roughly a 600mb big partition. After that, I couldn't get back onto osx

Let's not guess, let's see exactly what you have now. In Disk Utility is it showing 1 volume or 2?

The Recovery is a hidden partition so you won't see it in Disk Utilty.

It's showing three. One being for Mac OSx, and one for windows and another that's not allocated.

If you are still in Internet Recovery, please post the output from Utilities -> Terminal, run the following commands,

    gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    diskutil list

Use Command+C to copy the Terminal output, exit Terminal, start Safari from Recovery Console, and past the output as a reply to this thread.

If you chose the incorrect partition for formatting, or formatted the disk as MBR, it may be possible to reconstruct the GPT. It depends on the output of the commands.

The GPT has corruption and is unreadable. This is most likely a CRC corruption.

You have a CS OS X installation, and Bootcamp. You have created a 140Gb partition and erased it (which makes it HFS) by default.

Please post the output of diskutil cs list.

Does Windows boot properly? Please run

    diskutil repairDisk disk0

and post the output. This may not fix your issue. Try to run

    gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

after the repairDisk completes. Post the output of both commands.

Yes, windows does run! When I input the diskrepair command, I am asked if I wish to proceed as data might be ereased. Do I type Y or N?

Also thank you so much for helping me out here!
