Usually just resetting your Apple ID password will unlock your account.

Jul 14, 2016 9:01 PM in response to willbailby LACAllen,Apple's system would interpret multiple failed attempts to access your account i.e.: wrong password as a possible breach and lock the account as a precaution for you.
It's possible "you" had nothing to do with this.
If anyone online hammers away at your account, trying to guess the password, the account gets locked to protect you.

Your OP was about having to reset it. Now it's about being asked for it often.
They aren't necessarily caused by the same thing.
Maybe you should try 2FA. You will get emails about attempts to sign in with your Apple ID, but they will also name a place and time the attempt was made.
