Q: Mac / iPhone power / Backup problems

Hi,

I am having problems with my iPhone 6S, it will go from full power to almost dead during half an hour of standby time, and switch off during calls, or if I try to use the camera or browser etc.

I have sent the phone off and there is apparently nothing wrong with it.

During the last conversation with Apple, they told me to wipe the phone and see if it operates properly from a 'set up as a near iPhone' process. I use the phone to run my business and that will mean a couple of days with no contacts or emails on it, which is a pain.

I have deleted any unused apps, turned all but a few off of 'access to 4G' etc, and it's getting worse.

I tried to back the phone up twice, each time it gets almost to the end, saves no backup version but takes up around 100GB on my hard-drive, I have no idea where and so I can't delete it.

Any ideas would be massively appreciated, it's driving me mad!

Thank you,

Rupert

See if you can find the file(s) using one of these programs. If you go Finder/View/Show Path Bar, it will show you where it is located.

Sounds like an app that has gone rogue, i.e., misbehaving such that it's using up your battery. Consider force quitting all your apps. This procedure is different from just turning off access to Cellular 4G service.

I tried to back the phone up twice, each time it gets almost to the end, saves no backup version but takes up around 100GB on my hard-drive...

Is there an error message? So, the capacity of your iPhone is 128GB in which you've used almost 100GB? Is there at least one and a half times that much free storage space available on your hard drive? This misbehaving app could be a factor to the back up problem. After force quitting all the apps, power off the iPhone, wait a couple minutes and then power it back up. With no apps running, try a back up.

...Apple, they told me to wipe the phone and see if it operates properly from a 'set up as a near iPhone' process. I use the phone to run my business and that will mean a couple of days with no contacts or emails on it, which is a pain.

Actually, once you make a full back up, you'll eventually use it to restore your data. Apple's suggestion to set up as new is a 4-step process of back up data, erase device, setup as new, and finally restore data.
