Q: OSx gone after installing Bootcamp!!

Hello. Recently I installed Bootcamp. Everything seemed to go well, until I noticed that after a while the Recovery HD partition disappeared. I have no clue what I did or what I messed with, but it's gone... Only after that OSx vanished, and now I'm stuck on Windows. I really, really, really need help!! I have important files on my OSx and I cannot afford losing them! Please help!!

Thank you...

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Copy only non-OS files. The OS files be overwritten anyway and are unnecessary.

The installation says it only need "20 minutes", but it's taking well over that. Is that normal?

Okay, it finished now. I've tried to reinstall OSx on my old hard drive. It still fails. Should I erease everything on it, and then reinstall it?

    • On an external USB drive, use the instructions from How to install OS X on an external drive connected to your Mac - Apple Support and install OS X on the EXTERNAL drive. Do not mess about with your internal drive, as it may still have data on it. During this process, create a new username on the external drive, which will have administrator access
    • Now boot from the external drive and log in.
    • Your internal drive (hopefully with all your data still on it) might be available under /Volumes/Macintosh HD
    • If the internal drive has mounted, you should be able to copy your data from /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users

Did you remove the 'new' OS X on the 'old' drive? Can you see files in Finder from your 'old' OS X installation? Have your personal files been copied?

If you have re-installed OS X on disk0 ('old' - internal disk), have you tried to boot from it?

I did, and it worked. It seemed I had to erease everything. I don't know why though. Should I try restoring from the image I made, to retrieve my programs again?

Did just the re-install of OS X not complete properly after you removed the 'new' partitions?

The reinstall did not work until I ereased every partition. I did that, then installed OSx completely new. Then, I used the image I made before to restore it. Now My OSx is back to how it used to be and it works, which is odd, but I a mglad.

The partitioning looks good. I suggest a new backup before you start normal use, just in case you need it in the future.
