Q: Audio Crossfade Off Option

1. Is there a way to easily shut off the audio cross fade in a transition?

Currently I see there are four options, s-curve, linear etc. but there is no way to shut it off. I know that I can expand the audio on the transition and remove the fades manually but that is too time consuming. I wish there was just a way to shut them off.

I make lecture videos and edit them based on the audio. I use the transitions to blur the slight movements between clips.

2. Alternatively is there a way to make a custom transition without an audio cross fade which I could set to my default transition?

Thanks

EExpand the audio before you apply the video transition. There will be no audio fade.

Not a bad solution but still a bit complicated even with the shortcuts. Is there a way to make a custom transition without an audio cross fade which I could set to my default transition?

    Hi Rav

By eliminating the audio cross fades, you risk having clicking and pops happening in the sound. Pops will happen whenever the audio change does not happen at "0dB" at the transition. Cross fades eliminate this issue.

Given the default shortness of the audio crossfade, never had a problem.

You could open up the transition(s) you are using in Motion and create a custom transition without an audio crossfade.( I think?) Or change the duration of the audio cross fade. Once you have created the transition, the latest versions of FCPX allow you to set that transition as the default transition and use keyboard shortcut to apply.

You can zoom in to the clip and shorten the audio crossfade duration, but what a pain.

You can also expand the transition clips with "Control + S" keys and overlap the audio for the crossfade duration.

I actually created an audio only cross fade to manage audio pops for jump cuts, just the opposite of what you want.

    Hope this helps, Greg
