Q: MBPr crashing (mostly on Safari) with Google Maps

Hey folks,

Quite recently (last month or so, but not sure about the exact time), my Mac would crash when I used the satellite mode on Google maps. Almost always this is a problem with Safari. Today I tested it and it wouldn't crash on Google Chrome, but would do so consistently with Safari. (I know that, previously, at least once did it crash on Chrome too.)

Anyone's had a similar experience? What should I try?

Thanks!

Pete

Crashed. Interestingly, almost every time this happens (apart from those cases where the computer shuts down immediately after I turn on the satellite mode—which is not often) the computer fan starts going loud.

Update: it's not just Satellite mode. Google maps in general.

Last update: I just got my MBP back from the Apple store. The GPU gave out—again, 2nd time in three months. All covered under the extended warranty, but annoying all the same. I'm replacing on the arrival of the new MBP. It's been four years anyway. I've loved my computer, though, and wrote my whole PhD on it! (Last time the GUP failed, it was less than three weeks before I would submit my dissertation!)
