Q: My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire.  I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

Just had this problem on my iPhone 6S Plus on 9.3.2. This shouldn't still be happening!

So frustrating! I called Apple yesterday and she told me to make an appt at the closest Apple store. She said they will probably give me a new phone since I've only had it for 5 months. From reading through posts I noticed that someone mentioned something about it being possibly caused by the fingerprint option. Which I did have on. So for now I turned that off until I can get into the Apple store. Which of course isn't until Thursday evening.

Same problem as described happened to me for the first time, I have the phone for about 4 months, running the latest iOS updates.

Just spoke to Apple  senior support engineer, suggested to do a full factory reset, from iTunes, not from the iPhone. Something to do with faulty iOS code with regards to the finger print scanner.... Fingers crossed.....

Of course I don't own a computer. I just use my phone and iPad. Please keep me posted. I can always use my moms laptop or something.

Same thing just happened to me, my phone was charging but at 100% I unplugged it and took off the case thinking it was over heating but the rest of the phone was normal temps true, just the home button was extremely hot. My phone is fully updated to the iOS 9.3.2 and I can't get to an Apple Store as I live 2 hours away from the closest store with no car. I hope this isn't an ongoing problem but seen as its been almost a year since the original post and I bought my 6s in January you would have thought they'd fixed it by now.

I experienced this heating button problem and solved it with the 10 seconf power & hot button pressing. The 10 seconds were painfull hot but the phone started. Do i go to service center to replace... I just got it 15 days back it is iphone 6s 64 GB gold.

Happened to me a second time today. Was in my pocket and brought it and black screen and noticed the home button was warm but not scorching like the first time.

I'm assuming i managed to catch it early this time since it wasn't super hot.

Owned the device less than a month. T-Mobile won't do anything since I can't replicate the problem.

Very disappointed. I think next time it happens I'm not going to let it reboot and just let it stay hot and take it in then and have them touch the button and see how they can deny me then.

I just had the same issue. Phone was nearly fully charged, I made a phone call and the next time I looked at it -- totally dead. Black screen. Red hot home button. I followed the advice given here:  simultaneously hold down the home button (had to protect my finger with a paper napkin!) and the power button. for 10 seconds.  Apple icon came right back and the phone came on.

You all just SAVED me!  I had the EXACT same thing just happen to my phone.  I was talking...hung up and my phone was black.  I assume it died even though I had last checked and it had 30%.  So I plugged it in and the home button was on fire.  I tried everything.  So I did what you all did...I held the home button and the power button for 15 seconds and the Apple sign came on and the heat from the home button went away.  Thank you all for your suggestions...amazing how our lives totally depend on technology!

Same exact thing happened to my I phone 6 S...   Screen went black and power button very hot to touch...followed instructions that I got from this site and held the power button down at the same time as the home button..this took about 10 to 15 seconds of holding to get the phone to power back on..My phone is 6 months old....so glad this site told me what to do.  As expensive as these phones are they should not have these problems
