Jul 18, 2016 8:02 AM in response to sunflower in ncby Bakhtina,Hi,
It's nice of you to try and find the owner of a lost device, I'm sure they'll really appreciate it if you can find them.
There are two pieces of advice I can give you :
1. Make sure the computer is charged and bring it back where you found it. If you're lucky, the owner activated Find My Mac and the device will connect to a Wi-Fi network they have used previously.
2. Tell the local police about this. It's possible the MBP's owner contacted them already and gave them the serial number of that computer in case it's found.
Good luck!
Bakhtina

Jul 18, 2016 8:03 AM in response to sunflower in ncby Limnos,Contact the police. Apple does not run a lost and found service.
Leave it powered on? I don't know but it is possible if it can connect to the Internet the owner may be using a Find My Mac application to look for it.

Jul 18, 2016 9:56 AM in response to Limnosby sunflower in nc,i left it powered on for that exact reason & it died. i am not a macbook user, so i'm out of luck with that for now. i did take it to work and a co-worker charged it for me, but that's all i have on that. as far as take it to where i found it..i was traveling for work and am not in that location anymore. that is also the reason that the security team said they wouldn't take it from me, they cannot be sure of where the original owner is from. i called the police in my area and they said it does me no good to turn it in here, when i found it five states away.

Jul 18, 2016 10:04 AM in response to sunflower in ncby ChrisJ4203,I suggest that you contact the police in the jurisdiction that you were in, in case the person that lost the device attempts to contact them, or already has. That would be the police agency he would contact, or if you were at a convention center and/or hotel, have them at least make a record of you having the device in case the person that lost it contacts them. Think of who you would contact if you were in the same position, and make those calls.
