It looks like your Touch ID is giving you some problems on your iPhone 6. Touch ID is an awesome feature on the iPhone and I use it personally to unlock my own device, so I can understand why you would reach out for help when it's not working properly for you.
To get Touch ID up and running again, I recommend following the steps in the following support article:
Use Touch ID on iPhone and iPad
Specifically this section:
Get help with Touch ID
Sometimes, you'll need to enter your passcode or Apple ID instead of using Touch ID:
- If you've just restarted your device
- If your fingerprint isn't recognized five times in a row
- If you haven't unlocked your device in more than 48 hours
- If you've just enrolled or deleted fingerprints
- If you're trying to open Touch ID & Passcode in the Settings menu
- If Require Password is set to Immediately under Settings > General > Restrictions
If you still need help, follow these steps. Try again after each step:
- Make sure you have the latest version of iOS.
- Make sure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.1 For the Home button, use a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe off any dirt or debris.
- Your finger should cover the Home button completely, touching the surrounding metal ring. While Touch ID is scanning, you shouldn't press down hard, tap too quickly, or move your finger around.
- If you're using a case or screen protector, make sure it doesn't cover the Home button or the surrounding ring.
- Tap Settings > Touch ID & Passcode. Make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on, and that you've enrolled one or more fingerprints.
- Try enrolling a different finger.
- If you can't enroll any of your fingers, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact Apple Support.
You will see that the first troubleshooting step in that section says, "Make sure you have the latest version of iOS". If you're not running iOS 9.3.2 on your iPhone currently, you should definitely make sure you get updated first and then test out your Touch ID afterwards. I always recommend creating a fresh backup of your device before doing any software updates. Follow the steps in the support articles below for backing up your iPhone and updating via iTunes or wirelessly with Wi-Fi.

Even with a broken Home button, you should still be able to update your iPhone via either Wi-Fi or through iTunes on a computer. With that being said, if your Home button is physically damaged, you may want to still consider getting your iPhone repaired at some point in time since it can be a bit limiting to not have a functioning button on your device.
