Q: How to fix Bootcamp's "Your disk could not be partitioned.." fsck not working
Hello, after days of searching for a solution and trying many times to fix this, I'm posting a question.
I want to create a partition with Bootcamp in order to install Windows 7. Here's what I did in this order:
- Tried to partition with bootcamp but it was only letting me select 32gb or 1024gb (which I didn't have available).
- Manually create partition with Disk Utility and upon booting to my flash drive, found out that the USB 3.0 / Bluetooth drivers wouldn't load so ran into issue where I couldn't get past "select language" screen on Win 7 install.
- Tried to reboot and delete my partition but noticed I couldn't so I had to boot into Internet Recovery and using terminal and gpt commands, deleted that unused partition and used Disk Utility to merge it back into main drive. I followed these instructions: Deleted my bootcamp partition but cant resize my osx partition
- Re-ran bootcamp and got error "Your disk could not be partitioned."
- Ran disk repair/verify etc and no errors found.
- Ran fsck per this thread Your disk could not be partitioned. Win7 Bootcamp and still got same here.
- Thought maybe filevault was causing issue so disabled that. 48 hours later my 2.3TB were decrypted.
- Ran bootcamp, same issue.
- Ran fsck, same issue.
- Currently using TestDisk to analyze sectors on disk1, is that right?:
I'm up for creating another manual partition if I can get USB/BT drivers to work.
By the way, does anyone know why there is a 32gb/1024gb limit on my partition size for bootcamp? Why can't I select anything in between?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

8. Run BCA again, screen went black and couldn’t access info
9. Restart, Reset NVRAM, run BCA again. Computer froze.
10. Restart, Reset NVRAM, run fsck -fy. Run BCA. Computer froze.
11. Restarted into Internet Recovery (alt-opt-r for those reading this)
12. Booted into OS X and prepped for a reinstall using THIS
13. Restarted back into Internet Recovery.
14. Ran disk utility to try to unmount and erase the drive, no go.
14. Closed DU, but while still in Internet Recovery, opened Terminal.
15. Performed actions listed HERE under “or remove all partitions (recommended)” .. listed below for your convenience:
a. unmount drive using diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk1
b. destroy data using gpt destroy /dev/disk1
c. exit
16. Went back into Disk Utility and a dialog popped up so I let it partition my Fusion drive automatically.
17. Reinstalled OSX
18. Ran bootcamp (skipping first two installation steps because I already installed to a USB 2.0 Flash Drive). This time BCA allowed me to select any size I wanted. Prior to this, I was only given the choice of a Windows drive of 32gb or 1024gb (which surpassed my available space). I selected 499gb.
19. Bootcamp restarted into Windows and I flew through the install with no issues!
20. After Windows was successfully installed, rebooted into OS X and ran Migration Assistant to restore my 2.2TB back onto my new OS X Partition (2.6gb).
Here’s my final diskutil cs list … Not sure if it’s correct but it looks great in my Disk Utility so I’m happy with that much.
Everything was successful and even though it took me a week to do it, I didn’t lose ANY info which was way better than getting it fixed immediately. Thanks to Loner T for all his help!
