Q: 2000 photos missed!

Photos in your cameral roll don't disappear by itself, I've yet to lose any pictures since I've had the iPhone 3GS.

Restore from your icloud and iTunes backup.

First look in the Recently Deleted folder. Are they there?

If you still cannot see them try resetting the Photos App. Close Photos completely from the app switcher window by double clicking the Home button and swiping up the Photos preview pane until it disappears from the screen. Then do a forced restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

If you backed up to icloud then photos are included in the backup or are you referring to this:
