    Hello MVassia,

Thanks for asking your question in the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with some app. I'm happy to offer some information about the Mac Mini and the screen freezing.

Since you are using a Windows keyboard with your Mac Mini, in order to force quit an app, you will need to press the keys that correlate to the Mac keys: option-command-esc.

For your reference, the windows key is used in place of the command ⌘ key. The alt key would be used in place of the option ⌥ key, and the esc key would be the same. You would want to press windows, alt, and the esc keys.

You also have the option to press command-shift-option-esc and hold for 3 seconds to force just the front app to quit. That would be windows-shift ⇧-alt-esc for a 3 second hold. The Mac keyboard information is located in this help article: Mac keyboard shortcuts.

You may wish to check this article for help with the app that is freezing also: OS X El Capitan: If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly. If you can correct the app from freezing, you will not have to restart the computer using the power button. You may also want to see if the app freezes in safe mode with this help article: Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up. Check the section titled "If an issue doesn't happen in safe mode" if the app operates normally in safe mode.

To answer your question about turing the computer off using the power button, that is supposed to be used as a last resort and it may cause the loss of any unsaved information. Instead, try using the options provided above with the keys for your windows keyboard, or the options in this help article: Force an app to close on your Mac.

Thanks again, and have a great rest of your day.
