Q: Unable to Check for Update: An error occurred while checking for a software update and only option is to Cancel or Try again..

I bought this iPhone 6+ about 4 weeks ago, today I saw that there was an iOS update 9.3.3. I was able to successfully update my work iPhone 5s but not my iPhone6+. I don't have a jailbreak phone and current iOS is 9.3.2.  I googled the issue and tried these:

  1. You may want to try updating your software via iTunes. Updating your software may fix this problem.

  2. Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and then on again.

  3. Restart your iOS device.

  4. Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

  5. Change your DNS settings. To do that, simply tap Settings > Wi-Fi then Tap the blue arrow next to your current Wi-Fi network. Tap the “DNS” field and enter the DNS servers; 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 (Google’s Public DNS). After this, try a software update.

I tried these none worked.

Thanks for help in advance!

Why were you unable to update the iPhone 6+? What happens when you try? Do you receive an error? If so, what is the exact text of the error?

No, I was not successful, and I tried numerous ways and gave up and now I'm trying to restore. No actual error came up except what I posted,

I reset my device to factory defaults and logged in over the work wifi and selected my iCloud back up and it just sits with no progress. I tried it twice yesterday hours apart with no progress. Started early enough and still no progress.

Well, first you talk about updating software, now you are talking about restoring from an iCloud backup. When you reset this device to factory defaults, can you describe what you did? It seems you may have just erased all content and settings.

Try connecting the phone to the computer and iTunes. Make a backup of the device, and update the iOS via iTunes. After the device is finished installing the new iOS and goes to the Hello screen, go ahead and select your last iCloud backup.
