Q: iMac startup looks like this

I've had problems with this mac since I bought it. AppleCare expires August 14th. No matter what tests I run, it returns, "No problems found." A few months ago, took it to Apple Store. No problems. Fusion drive takes over two minutes to start up, when it does startup. What can I do to get this fixed before it is no longer covered? Telephone support has not fixed it. I'm about to trash a $2,200 computer.

Your computer is experiencing a Kernel Panic. Tell us what occurs when you run Apple Diagnostics, you can learn how by clicking Using Apple Diagnostics - Apple Support?

Because KPs can be either hardware or software, it is possible you have installed something that created the problem. Do you have any cleaning, antivirus or ANY other third party utilities that are supposed to "maintain" the computer in any way? Did you upgrade the RAM yourself, if so what brand of RAM did you install?

Ran apple diagnostics; no problems. Apparently I have an infection. Didn't know that is what a kernel panic looks like. Now searching for malware sectors. Apple tech told me I didn't need them last time I was in the Apple Store. Used to be true in the 80s and 90s (Norton such a good example of unnecessary software), but I'm about convinced: now the Mac is vulnerable.  Downloaded MacKeeper and Malwarebytes. MacKeeper was labeled malware by Malwarebytes. MacKeeper has strong support and strong detractors. I dumped it.  If Apple Diagnostics is right, good chance my hardware is ok, but software infected... Looking for solution, how to find the problem...

Updated to Crucial memory myself, No memory problems. Crucial is top of the line, I think.

Thanks for identifying this as a kernel panic. I'd never seen one in all these years...

OS X is extremely secure and runs best if left alone. There are no viruses for OS X however a user can download other malware but this is normally unusual for most users. If you are in the habit of using a torrent to download applications or other software that is not only illegal it is dangerous as that software frequently contains malware.

If you downloaded ANY antivirus or cleaning apps such as MacKeeper then that only makes your problem worse. NEVER EVER install any antivirus or cleaning apps!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your iMac will startup then please download and run EtreCheck report of your system. We can then look for obvious issues. Please click the link, download the app and run the report. Once you have the report, please copy and paste it to your reply to this post.

If you would like more info on what EtreCheck is, simply click the link and you will find a description of the app.

Well you have some apps that are not useful and should be uninstalled. Those apps are:

Tech Tools, . Uninstall per the developers instructions.

Intego Backup manager,  uninstall per the developers instructions.

You have added a great deal of third party software and I suspect some of it is not up-to-date. This can cause KPs. Methodically go through all of your apps and update them to be compatible with the version of OS X that you have installed.  This also included the Internet Plugins you have added, if you have some that you no longer use, then uninstall them.

Tech Tool Pro? That's a problem? Apple used to include a free copy... But I don't use it much, DiskWarrior has always been the best for directory, and drive Genius seems to be most useful now for testing and repair.

I stopped using Intego months ago; I'll erase it, but please comment on why TTP...?

I'll go through my apps and get rid of everything I don't use. Probably some unused are out of date...

TTP has not been used by Apple in about 10 years, when I used it, it simply had no value. If you want to keep it, at the very least ensure the version you have is designed to run on El Capitan. Outdated apps can cause Kernel Panics, it is critical that users keep their apps up-to-date on an ongoing basis. If you don't when you upgrade OS X you can run into issues. While KP's can be caused by other sources (RAM, failing HD, etc...), it is wise to eliminate potential causes such as out-of-date applications.
