Q: iMac 2011 21inch Won't Start After SSD upgrade

I recently upgraded my hard drive to an SSD via a computer repair business in my neighborhood— I also upgraded the ram, but I don’t think that’s the issue here. About a two weeks after the upgrade, my computer wouldn’t turn on anymore. I took it to the genius bar and they told me the SSD had “failed”. So of course, I took my computer back to the computer repair business and they ran some tests, discovered that the hard drive had not failed (according to them, it only read that way because the apple store ran the test for a regular hard drive and not a SSD). I’m not super computer savvy so, I took their word for it.

Now, however, it’s been almost a month and my computer refuses to turn on yet again. Before, it worked fine, the fans were running at full blast— which I knew would be a problem (although the repair company told me they “fixed” this issue too). So the first time, I downloaded a program called SSD fan control and set the fans to run silently. This second time around, I realized that was probably a bad idea as it might lead to overheating, so I manually set the fan speed so that you could still hear it running but just not as loud.

I’ve tried the SMC reset, but no results. Right now, I have unplugged everything including unplugging from the power strip.

Has anyone else experience power failure with a new SSD? Is there anything else I could try at home before contacting the computer repair business again? I wouldn’t be able to reach them until tomorrow anyway, and I’m really curious as to how they were able to get my computer to turn back on the first time.

Also, I've been outside of my warranty period for about a year, so that's why I figured I wasn't risking too much by swapping the original drive for an SSD.
