Q: Cannot boot into Apple Diagnostics
I've been getting frequent kernel panics on my MBP (again), and I want to run diagnostics. However I've never been able to boot into Apple Diagnostics on my computer, so I wanted to check if I'm doing this right.
Here's what I do (steps from Using Apple Diagnostics - Apple Support)
- Shut down the MBP and connect the power
- Startup, press D key immediately after hearing the startup tone
- Apple internet restore starts
- I select my usual wireless network (there is no other option)
- Error 501D happens, I cannot proceed any further
Am I doing this wrong? I'm using the laptop keyboard, and I'm not 'accidentally' pressing another key or anything like that. I'm wondering if either the key for diagnostics got changed, or if diagnostics are somehow not on my machine, so it starts internet restore (which doesn't work). If it's the second, how do I install the diagnostics locally?
