Q: OS X Freezes on install (tried all fixes)

I recently made the silly decision to upgrade to El Capitan on my 2011 MacBook Pro as it went off without a hitch on my iMac at work.

It has incurred the same issue that I have read about countless times and am trying to fix it and I've tried almost everything. it freezes at about 70% install or fully fills and then does nothing, I've left it over night to no use.

- Ive booted it up I recovery mode and reinstalled the OS to no avail

- Ive flashed the NVRAM a few times to no avail.

I haven't tried deleting any 3rd party kexts as I don't know how, the commands I followed and typed into terminal just said command not recognised etc.

i understand there are other topics on this but I have scoured them and tried everything I could to my knowledge and it still hasn't worked. If someone could aid me in deleting any kexts that are causing issues with the install that would be great, and if that doesn't work some further assistance if possible! I really don't want to do a hard install.

thanks, any help is massively appreciated!

Do you have a backup (Time Machine or clone)?

Do you have an external drive?

When you were in Recovery Drive, did you run Disk Utility > Repair Drive?

I Don't have a time machine back up (daft, I know!) and I could reinstall Yosemite from an external HD but I'd rather not lose what's on the HD because El Capitan is a buggy upgrade (nice one Apple) I know there's one fix that might do the job which involves removing all third party kexts via terminal but I don't know how to do this to even try! Or what 3rd party kexts I may have installed, so was hoping someone could help there, thank you though

I can get it into recovery mode which tells me OSX 10.11.6 is what is installed, which is capitan, I have performed first aid on the disk, no problems there, I have removed all peripheral cables, all good there, tried booting in safe mode, all it does is the same (get stuck at roughly 70% on the loading bar on the grey Apple screen) any ideas?

yeah thanks man, tried everything I could from all 3, some suggestions I need access to the mac in safe mode, one of the suggestions to do diskutil verify / in terminal didn't work because for some reason Terminal won't recognise a single normal command I give it, something fishy with the path, the only thing I havent tried is resetting the SMC but that involves opening the Mac and fiddling with the battery and that's a last option as far as im aware.

i have read plenty in other threads about 3rd party kexts disrupting the El Capitan install and people suggesting how to disable them from terminal, I was hoping someone could suggest how i do that?
