An iPad is not meant to be connected with your Mac via Bluetooth.

What model airport extreme do you have?

You do not list anywhere the model or firmware.. if you don't have an airport it likely won't work.

Airdrop is a fragile conceptual technology where all the pieces have to be in exactly the right place to work.

There are lots of posts with people having issues.. do a google search.

To use AirDrop between an iOS device and a Mac, the following basic requirements must be met:

• The Mac must be a 2012 or later model and running OS X10.10 Yosemite or later.
• The iPad must be one of the following:
  • iPad Pro
  • iPad 4th generation or later
  • iPad mini or later
  • Running iOS 7 or later
• Both devices must have Bluetooth (4.0 LE) & Wi-Fi enabled.
