Q: My ex hacked my iMessage and I'm scared my computer and phone.

I saw how he sent a message to himself through iCloud my email and i never sent him that. I have seen text and edit boxes saved. I found out he has been watching me for years on campus and has a delusional disorder. I am so freaked out I'm trying to make sure my computer is safe and phone. Please please help I have not gotten any sleep and scared to tell my parents and friends bc I am an advocate bc I was almost killed in 2011 he was looking for people online to help him and heard of my story.

All the above are very sound advice. Steps to be taken:

 

  • Go sit somewhere alone where you have internet access.
  • Make a backup of your HD.
  • Write down all your passwords - especially those in the keychain - so that you have access to the various programs that you are using. Don't forget those in Safari which you conveniently saved before. Other browsers?
  • (You could delete the keychain and start a new one, but that is a bit extreme. And I would not do that).
  • Change your password - Change your Apple ID - Apple Support
  • Systematically change all the login passwords to new ones using your compiled list. Do that for all the various institutions as well, don't forget!
  • Verify that all is working.
  • If not, restore from your backup and start all over again.

    In addition to the password, I'd suggest you actually erase your hard drive and reinstall the OS from scratch using recovery. And, I would close/delete any/all accounts online (email, stores, financial, whatever) and create new ones. Also, change your Apple ID (see the instructions below). Use a totally different sign-in/user name and very difficult to guess password. That is a bit of an overkill, but that is what I would do if I were in your situation.

    Make sure you have a record of your new usernames/passwords and, before starting this, make sure you back up your important files as an erase will delete everything.

    What if you just buy another Mac and iPhone and just escape from the place you live now.

    Your situation seems to be really dangerous and you probably need more serious measures than just change Apple ID.

    Think about yourself and your relatives.

    Did you try to sue the guy?
