Q: mac pro 2010 won't feed a video signal to my tv via hdmi when I tried to update to 10.11.6!! what do i do? I've already tried all the resetting options..

i have a mid 2010 Mac Pro with a nivida gtx 970 graphics card.

i updated the card and no problem, but when i tried to update to el captain 10.11.6 and i got to the part to reboot my computer, the mac pro just stop feeding a signal to my tv

it turns on and the chime goes off and the fans are rolling ... just the hdmi won't work.

i have used several other hdmi cords, and two cvs and still nothing..

was working just fine before this started..

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), in the process...

Do other outputs besides the HDMI work?
What is a "cvs"?
Have you installed the latest video drivers?
Updatee OSX from what?

i dont have any other outputs...

i was using the hdmi because it was working flawlessly ..

i meant to says TVs not cvs,,

I'm pretty sure it was from 10.11.4 or 10.11.5 ...

You need to update the Nvidia drivers. The 970requires drivers to work

You may have to install a Mac card to install the drivers.

Okay thank you for this I am downloading now... however I am sure that the mac pro has a mac card.. the mac pro was built when i bought the machine and it was on 10.11.4 just to clarify..

However, when i download this driver .. how do i get it onto the Mac Pro and install?

I am not able to see any video feed from the mac pro/

As I said before, the 970 requires drivers to work. Since El Capitan, for many OSX updates Apple requires drivers signed for that OSX version.

Do you have another Mac? If so what specific one?

I have a macbook pro retina.... 2013 15 inch

The nivida gtx 970 was working just fine on the 10.11.4..

will i be able to access my mac pro any other way? through my macbook retina?

I know you can do it if you connect a Thunderbolt>FireWire adopter to the MacBook and connect the two via FireWire and book the desktop in Target Disk mode and boot the MacBook in with Option key depressed and select booting from the desktop's startup disk. Install the drivers and shutdown both Macs and boot the desktop normally

Great.. so I just need to buy like a mini display port to hdmi or thunderbolt and connect it to my macbook retina?

and then go through the process in the link...

and then boot the desktop while holding down the T key?

- You need to purchase a Thunderbolt>FireWire adopter

- Then connect the two Macs via FireWire
-Boot the problem Mac with the T key depressed
- Boot the MacBook with the Option key depressed. Then select the problem Mac's HD to boot from.
- After booting and logging in install the new drivers.
- Shutdown both Macs and boot the problem Mac normally

where can i buy a firewire cable?

I am looking forward to trying this, although, I'm upset about this situation..

should i try a firewire or mini display to hdmi to see if that works on a tv or no..

You want a cable with FW 800 on both ends

BTW, FW is not for video output.

okay great!

so the guy i bought the mac pro from said that your method to boot from the problem mac's hd might work his only concern is that the newer model macbook retinas may not be able to read the older mac pros..

also, he says he has the old mac graphics card.. "its not great"... apparently i can plug that in at the same time , so i can run the software that way, but i won't get it until next week.
