May 31, 2016 1:21 AM in response to Nerd78by D.Cohen,Try to sit and relaunch iTunes, then perform a manual sync.
If syncing now works but no content, music, apps, or movies is moving over to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod, check the following:
- Under the “Summary” tab, check if “Manually manage music and videos” is enabled or not, if it is then try toggling it off and on again then manually drag a song or movie over to the iOS device to force manual syncing
- Look under the “Music”, “Movies”, “Apps”, “TV Shows” or respective tabs and be sure that “Sync Music”, “Sync Movies” etc is checked and enabled
- Try checking and unchecking those boxes, then hit the “Sync” button again

Jul 21, 2016 4:15 AM in response to Nerd78by JasonZeppelin,Hi Nerd78, I have the same problem and it appears 1st and 2nd Gen shuffles are no longer supported. All of the help pages from Apple specifically refer to 3rd and 4th Gen only.

Aug 3, 2016 1:21 AM in response to turingtest2by Ked Klerta,I have exactly the same problem. The glitch is I cannot select the device icon because it's totally inactive. The icon is there alright, but it is wholeheartedly non-responsive. No amount of clicking, disconnecting, restarting or creative trickery helps. What should I do? Been wrestling with this for two days now.

Aug 3, 2016 3:48 AM in response to Ked Klertaby JasonZeppelin,Hi Ked,
I have the same problem. Turns out if you plug in a newer iPod (I used a 4th gen shuffle from a friend), then plug in the 2nd gen shuffle at the same time, its icon becomes active again and you can use it as normal. Definitely some kind of bug.
