Q: HP 2420d shows filter failure  after Print is actuated

I have an HP 2420d laserjet B&W printer, and after upgrading to El Capitan it does not print. It gives me an error message –filter failure. I did everything possible. ???

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), DNP is the manufacturer of printer

    I updated the software yesterday, It didn't help.

    I didn't suggest that you update the software. Please follow the instructions in the linked support article.

    I am sorry to advise my attempt to reboot the HP 2420d printer failed again. I reset the printers per your instruction, exactly, re-added all three, Canon Pro 9000-II, Lexmark S300-400, HP Laserjet 2420d, but the HP showed same error "filter fail". The other two p[rinters work fine. I called Apple and they told me to contact HP. HP wasn't helpful at all.

    I don't know why this printer would not work with El Capitan OS, because it worked fine on my iMac 24 (before it died) with Yosemite. By the way, HP 2420 is the best B&W laser printer I used before and it is hard to part from it.

    Please launch the Console application in any one of the following ways:

    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

    ☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

    Select

              /var/log cups error_log

    from the hierarchical list on the left side of the Console window. If you don't see that list, select

              View Show Log List

    from the menu bar.

    Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last failed printing attempt. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

    If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

    The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

    Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

    Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

    When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

    If you have an account on Pastebin, please don't select Private from the Paste Exposure menu on the page, because then no one but you will be able to see it.
