Q: iBooks Library Doubled after Restore & Sync

Hi,

I recently had to restore my phone and in the process of restoring content from my latest backup my iPhone re-downloaded my entire iBooks library (almost 4GB) back to my phone. So far so good. Unfortunately when I next went to sync my phone to add a few new titles, iTunes synced my entire library *again* as well as the new titles. I now have around 8GB of space used up for 4GB of books, though when I open iBooks there is only one copy of each title. It seems that the data restored from backup does not compare itself to the data that is to be synced, and is dealt with separately.

Is there any way I can delete the data that was downloaded in the restore and go back to simply syncing the titles from my laptop so I only have one set of data for the iBooks?

Thanks in advance!

I have been playing around with this, and there seems to be no way to delete the data that has come down during the restore.

If I choose not to sync iBooks at all from iTunes then it removes the books (as expected) and all I see in iBooks on the phone are the books I've purchased as available from the cloud - the phone does not recognise them as being available even though the Storage and iCloud Usage page in Settings shows 4GB of data for iBooks (which would be the full amount of my library).

It is only when I re-sync the books back via iTunes that the books are available, but usage goes to 8GB.

In effect, I have 4GB of useless data associated with iBooks, which the app will not recognise as my library, and which I cannot delete.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

This issue is getting worse now - every time I sync the phone it takes all of my valid iBooks files off the phone and then resyncs them all back again. This takes quite some time, as I have 4gb of books.

The 4gb of 'junk' iBooks data is still unreadable, and just sits there unable to be removed or used.

Basically, iBooks seems to be broken since storing the books in the cloud. A fix would be good!
