Aperture was a pro app geared to the Pro or serious hobbyist, typically shooting Raw, probably on a DSLR.

If that's you then Photos is going to be missing a lot for you.

If it's not, then Aperture was probably overkill for your needs.

If you like Photos then that's the way to go.

    Look at this user tip:

Notes on Migrating an Aperture Library from Aperture to Photos for Mac

You will miss quite a few Aperture features. Photos still has no ability to apply brushed adjustment, or a smart batch changing.  No custom presets for anything.

But still, I migrated the smaller library with photos I want on all my devices, so I can use iCloud Photo Library and sync the changes between the photo libraries to all my macs.

One more thing:  Photos is better on El Capitan than on Yosemite. Consider to upgrade to the newer system.

The new Photos version allows geotagging, you can sort the photos within albums, you can batch change titles and captions, and most important, the new Photos allows to use external photo editing extensions.

See these links:   Photo Editing Extensions for Photos for Mac

and:  External Editors in Photos Are Here

And the next system upgrade to Sierra (http://www.apple.com/macos/sierra-preview/) promises further improvements.  For the time being we supplemented Photos by a couple of scripts. You will find them on the User Tip page:    Photos for Mac User Tips

    Thanks, Le'onie, et al:

Fearing upgrade to El Capita'n from earlier, neg. reviews, I wanted to mitigate storage & system challenges through use of iCloud/ Aperture-migration-to-Photos fix.

Though currently not shooting Raw, size alone of Aptr. library makes this attractive, just as earlier migration from iPhoto to Aperture solved problems.

Guess there are no free lunches, with or without Apples.
