Q: Slow startup after SSD installation due to grey screen
I just installed a Samsung Evo 500GB SSD into my 2010 Macbook Pro. I went to boot it and it booted very slowly due to a grey screen just sitting there for about 30 seconds and then it shows the apple logo and it takes another 15 seconds to load. The grey screen did not appear before installing the SSD but the Apple logo did take longer to load with the HDD. I used SuperDuper to clone my HDD to my SSD and then installed the SSD and started it up as normal. The only issue was the grey screen. I have heard that I need to go into System Preferences and select Startup Disk and select my startup disk, but there are none to choose. Please help.

Clear the PRAM/NVRAM and SMC, if there's a drive ID mismatch, it'll give you a grey screen with nothing on it for 15-30 seconds.
Whenever you change out the boot drive on a Mac, it will try and boot from the last-known drive ID (it may cache the ID of the drive in NVRAM)
