Q: Almost all Podcasts are deleted

Hi

Last night all my podcasts got deleted in a mystic way.

I think it has to do with my Itunes on my work pc with windows.

All podcast (around 30-40) got deleted excepted two.

I could add all 30-40 podcast (if i remember them all)

but would rather see if i could open the ITL file and see what podcast i had, and add them again.

Iphone, ipad and all over its deleted cloudsync for the win or loss in my case this time.

Anyone have some idea how to import or get my podcast back again?

Im at work atm so a solution for Windows is prefered now ;-)

Itunes for Windows 12.4.2.4 on Windows 10 (playing podcast at work)

iPhone 6 Plus, Windows 10

Without knowing more I would suspect some unintended interaction of the settings on various devices and the option to sync podcast settings.

As long as the podcast files are still in your media folder, or you can restore them from a backup, you can add the files back into the library. If iTunes doesn't automatically recognize them as podcasts you can change the media kind. However first see Re: Why did iTunes 11.1 (126) delete all (SEVERAL HUNDRED) Podcasts? and this post later in the same thread that mentions some possible file recovery tools that might be able to reclaim some of the lost files if you don't have them elsewhere. If the lost episodes are on an Apple device see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. You need to make sure your settings are such that iTunes isn't going to unexpectedly wipe episodes again.

You cannot inspect the .itl file, but you could try accessing the pre-update version of the library in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder, however don't do this if there is a risk of podcast settings being updated again before you have secured backups of all the files.

I had something like this for a while; whenever I synced with my ipod classic, all the listened-to episodes would be deleted from iTunes, even though I set each one of them to never delete on its own.  This was on two different computers, one running Windows 7 and the other 10.  It seemed to affect the two or three most-recently subscribed to ones, for some reason.  I tried asking around but got no answer.  I eventually got around it by subscribing to a couple of dummy podcasts and protecting the ones I was actually interested in.  I'm not sure if you're having exactly the same problem as me, though.

I don't have any issue myself. My library is fully backed up, and should a single file be about to be deleted or updated when I don't intend it to be then I have a recovery strategy. Apart from that one occasion I haven't had to do it again.

maybe I was a bit unclear.

i meant that the podcasts are gone.

    Not the subscriptions (On/off)

    Not the episodes (lisend/unlisend/downloaded)

but the whole podcast, if I import a old library file the podcasts flash by and gets deleted again...

Hope you get I better picture of what has happened

Yes, I understand. Imagine I have an iTunes library subscribed to say 30 different podcast series, and an iPad to which I've been syncing say 10 of them. Back when the option to sync podcasts subscriptions and settings first appeared I let it do its thing and it wiped out the 20 subscriptions in my library, keeping only the ones the iPad was subscribed to. (More or less). The point is that this a potentially destructive setting and Apple haven't managed the expectations or consequences properly. It is reasonable to expect that any feature that you enable will be non-destructive, and that you will get a warning before any content is deleted.

You need to disconnect from the network, restore the older library file, deselect the option that syncs podcast subscriptions, close iTunes, make another backup of the library file (and you better have a backup of the media files) then try to take iTunes back online. Now your podcast subscriptions should remain as they were.

    I though i solved it.... :-(

Not with the best solution but anyway...
I just did a new library and took the "itunes library DATE" in the folder "Previous iTunes Libraries" and copyed back.

then the podcasts was there again...  but slowly disapered again....

Disconnect your computer from the Internet.

Restore a copy of your Previous iTunes Library file.

Launch iTunes and make sure to turn off the highlighted setting.

    Connect to the Internet.

I gave up on trying to sync podcast settings on the assumption that it would just ruin everything again. I sync my iPhone with a selection of recent podcast episodes but also let the device download independently.
