Q: donating Mac Mini to  charity

I am donating  my MacMini (purchased 2010 and running OS X 10.6.8) to a charity and need to prepare the mini for donation.

I have the original 2 grey start-up disks and would appreciate instructions on how to do this properly

The link (and its sublink) specify not to Recovery

About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

and formatting the HD and reinstalling OSX via Recovery.

However, Recovery was introduced in Lion and the poster said they still have Snow Leopard.

The poster needs to boot from the install DVD (insert DCD and then boot with C key depressed) and then format/erase the startup disk and reinstall OSX from DVD.

Then after installing do NOT setup the Mac:

After you reformat your hard drive and reinstall OS X, the computer restarts to a Welcome screen and asks you to choose a country or region. If you want to leave the Mac in an out-of-box state, (you do want to do that) don't continue with the setup of your system. Instead, press Command-Q to shut down the Mac. When the new owner turns on the Mac, the Setup Assistant will guide them through the setup process.
