Dec 10, 2015 5:03 PM in response to ronwel37by ronwel37,Also...I just bought a brand new ipad mini 2 with ios 8 on it.
I quickly ran out of space when I added some apps. Under usage I see that the file for the ios 9.2 (1.1 gig) has already been downloaded onto it. Did it come from the factory this way, or did the iPad automatically download the update? Where did this file come from?

WHen I go check software update over wifi it is still showing ios 8.4.1 as the latest update. everything that I have read says that apple stopped signing 8.4.1 a long time ago. Does anyone know what is going on?

Jul 22, 2016 5:11 PM in response to ronwel37by Carolyn Samit,Updating your iPad requires a Mac that can run the latest version of iTunes 12.4.2 which requires OS X v10.8.5 or later.
Read here > Get the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support
See if your Mac can upgrade to El Capitan OS X v10.11 > Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support
With El Capitan installed you would have the latest version of iTunes available but this is a lot of trouble to go to for a first generation iPad mini that can only update to iOS version 8.x.x.

Jul 26, 2016 12:16 PM in response to Carolyn Samitby RonWel,Upgrading does not require a MAC. I could us a PC...as well as WIFI. I have managed to update all my ipods over WIFI, and upgraded another ipad (quite a while ago) using WIFI.
I'm wondering why when I got to update software on my iPad, using WFI, it shows 8.4.1 as the latest, but when I connect it to ITUNES it wand to upgrade to the latest IOS 9.

Jul 26, 2016 12:24 PM in response to Carolyn Samitby RonWel,Oh...the original iPad mini will support IOS 9...
(I would prefer to install 8.4.1, but not sure if using WIFI will download the latest IOS 9 instead.)
"With this release, Apple did not drop support for any iOS devices, with all devices supporting iOS 8 also able to run iOS 9. Supported devices on this release include the iPhone 4s onwards, iPod Touch (5th generation) onwards, the iPad 2 onwards, and the iPad Mini (1st generation) onwards, making iOS 9 have the most supported devices than any other iOS release, with 22 devices."

Jul 26, 2016 12:33 PM in response to RonWelby bobseufert,I'm fairly sure the update to IOS 8.4.1 is just an old message. If you hit the update button it should give you IOS 9.3.3.
