Q: Restoring El Capitan

I Cannot sync iCloud files across my devices. I have selected iCloud Drive on all but files just stick after attempting upload/download. Tried iCloud.com and files appear there ok. It is when using iCloud Drive 'save as' on my iMac mbp that files do not upload. My internet speed is fine and I have tried uploading a file from my iPhone at a different location, this works but not from my mbp.

I Believe I may have some corrupted osX files on both macs, will a restore of osX help!? And how do I go about it?

Try this first. Make a new user account, set up your iCloud in there and try if it works. If so, reinstalling the OS will be useless: the problem is somewhere in your User folder then.

Many thanks for your help. I set up a new apple id user account for my wife and iCloud drive works fine!

So a problem in my iCloud drive account/file/folder. Any ideas on how to go about sorting it?

Let's start with the simplest clean-up option. Reboot in Safe Mode and reboot normally afterwards.

Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.

    Start or restart your Mac.

Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.

Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

Did it work in the Safe Mode?

The 'open door' solution: uninstall Sophos.

eSquared, Almost there! Files still stuck at upload but when restarting computer they upload. I have removed Sophos.

If I remove my user details completely and set up again, do you think this could be the solution?

In that case, I would suggest using the fresh user account, set it up the way you want it, and (after a week or so, just to be sure) delete the old account.

But before all that: I suddenly noticed you also use GoogleDrive. That might also get in the way of your iCloud activities. (Just a hunch.)

I Installed google drive in lieu of iCloud when problems started, I'm now convinced that it's my user folder giving problems, especially after setting up new user (wife) and her iCloud works fine on same machine. Thanks for the latest I'll try that.

e2, Thanks for your help, your advice was spot on. Removed Sophos using the uninstaller, left mbp overnight, restarted this morning and 'hey presto'! files uploading to iCloud drive ok. I'll do the same on my iMac now.
