Q: No Email with my iCloud address inMail

My iMac does not work with iCloud Mail from Mac Mail. I get the error message "Can’t connect to iCloud because of a problem with “THE (MY) Email Address”

No problems on my iPhone or in iCloud itself. Someway it doesn’t seem to recognise my email address.

Can anybody help please??

I'm not dumb but with this problem I spent the most of this beautiful day on my computer.

Many thanks in advance.

Monique

Try signing out of iCloud and then back in again - System Preferences>iCloud>Sign Out.  Also try unchecking Mail in iCloud and then re-check it.

    Hi Gail.

A very good morning to you.  Thanks ever so much for your suggestions but 'Mail' on My iMac still does not recognize my iCloud email account.

    All the best

    Hi Monique,

Sorry I missed your post last night. I HAD to go to bed

OK, so open Mail, and then Preferences>Accounts. What do you see listed in the sidebar for Mail accounts? What do you see for Account Type and Description? And just to make sure, the "Enable this account" is checked, correct?

    Cheers,

    Hi Gail.

So very kind of you to get back to me in such a short time.  I know the time difference and also I bet you had a busy day at work.

Again I spent my day with trying to solve this problem, looked at different solutions but did not get anywhere.

Apple's Help Pages are very good but didn't help me on this occasion.

I have the feeling that I crocked something up with the 'Email address' and 'Mail' does not let me apply any changes.

I even tryed to delete the account in 'Mail' on my iMac and add the correct one but again it did not let me do it.

When I opened my iCloud account the other day I remember that it said 'Be careful with your email address as it can't be changed afterwards. That would make sense for my problem. I've got an iMac for almost 20 years and usually I always find my way round but this time I'm stuck (just don't want you to think that I'm a lost case).

I will try to add some attachments for you to see. I know it is wrong but....

Have a lovely evening from a hot (oh I love it) England.

    Cheers - Monique

I really don't know what to do know, I copies my 'Preference deatails' as .jpg but this program does not let me attach it to this email??

Try using the PNG format. Drag the picture into a response or use the camera to select the file and insert.

What error message did you get when you tried to add the account back? If it said it was already set up, try Mail/Preferences/Accounts /Account Information. Select an account, then go to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). From the drop down menu select Edit SMPT server list. See if the account is listed there. If so, delete the SMTP server for the account. Try to add the Mail account again.

You can also check System Preferences/Internet Accounts to see if the account is there.

    Hi Eric,

Will try with the attachments.  Done as you suggested. In Mail/Accounts/Preferences I cannot apply any changes.

The window freezes and I have to do a 'Force Quit' to get out. There is no other way.I cannot add the iCloud account again. Also checked 'System Preferences/Internet Accounts', it is there and 'ticked'.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Monique

    Hopefully with attachments ...

No. No luck. I can't insert them and I can't drag them into the window neither. I get prompted, try later, make sure of the size and .jpg or .pgn format. I have done both version.  Just not very lucky I am at the moment.

Cheers. Below the message I get >

You can take a screenshot by clicking on Shift + Command, then while holding those two down, click on the number "4", then on the space bar. It will show that it is selecting your entire screen, and will show up in your Finder and on your Desktop. If you have personal info on the screen, double-click it, and it will open it Preview, where you have Tools that allow you to hide the personal info. You should see a little crosshairs. Drag that crosshairs until the rectangle covers the info you want hidden. Do not be alarmed at the color of the restangle - it will just show a blank space where you covered the info up.

Once you have it completed, you can then click on the camera above here in the toolbar, and it will allow you Browse your Finder to select the file. You will see it listed under Desktop. Double-Click on it the click on "Insert Image" at the bottom of the window.

    YAY!!!! Good job

So, your Outgoing Mail Server needs to be iCloud:

    Screen Shot 2016-07-22 at 11.37.53 AM.png

This support article indicates the exact info you need in the Mail Server to enable iCloud Mail:

iCloud: Mail server settings for email clients - Apple Support

See if, once you get the setting to match, your iCloud email then works.

    Hi Gail,

Another few hours trying so solve this problem but I'm getting nowhere.

Don't seem to manage to change (blanked out) incoming/outgoing servers.

I come now to the solution just to forget about having my iCloud.com account on my iMac.

About my Photos in my iCloud account, I haven't even looked at that

Thanks foryour help anyway and enjoy your weekend

The easiest thing to do is to delete the iCloud Mail account - select it in the sidebar and then click on the "-" option at the bottom of the window, then add it back again.

Once it is deleted, go to Mail>Accounts, and click on iCloud to set it up again. It will ask for your Apple/iCloud ID. Once you sign in, it should configure it for you.

You are most welcome!!! Glad we got that sorted!!

It would be best to start a new thread with the specific query listed in the Question section. That way, others looking for a similar will be able to find it hopefully. Buried at the end of this thread is unlikely going to help any others looking for that kind of help.

    Cheers
