Q: unable to transfer iPhone 6s photos to iMac.

Screen Shot 2016-04-29 at 11.32.01 PM.png

Configurations:

OS X EL Capitan -10.11.4

Photos App - 1.5 (370.42.0)

iPhone 6s iOS- 9.3.1

As  you can see I am using all of the above stuff at latest available software. I have been seeing this recently and have tried almost all possible solutions provided by apple support  like , apple only cable, direct connection to iMac., iPhone-imac restart.

Basically the moment I try to copy my iPhone pictures to iMac by connecting it to through apple cable and open photos app in iMac. just like it used to before my iPhone will show up in import section and from there It would start loading up pictures from my iPhone to here as pics available to import. But now it starts loading up pics ( empty skeletons) but before it can load the all pictures iPhone disappears from  photos app. so I am not able to transfer my pics. I know there are tons of way to move pics to iMac but technically this should work too ( my fav and easiest of all) .

experiment tried

1) I have also tried by pressing option/alt button and starting iMac;s photos app to create a new library to see if it works that way , no luck.

2) the moment iPhone shows up clicked on import all photos button without selecting pics, it starts copying some  but after a while it fails with iPhone disappearing and above attached screenshot failure msg.

are there any known issues on mac's photos app or iPhone app side. I keep my stuff unto date so not sure when did this problem started in. I suspect it started when I enabled 4K video on my iPhone but not sure that just a speculation.

any kind of suggestion will be helpful thanks.

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

    Hi damdude,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.

I see that your iPhone isn't recognized by Photos or your iMac when you try to import pictures into your Photos library. You've tried several good troubleshooting steps already. Since the same thing happens in a new Photos library, try importing pictures using Image Capture--Image Capture: Transfer images and other items from your device.

If the same thing happens with Image Capture, I recommend trying to import the pictures on a different computer as mentioned in If you can't import photos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer:

If the same issue occurs on a different computer, restore the device and set it up as new.

If you need to restore your iPhone, you can back it up using iCloud so you wont lose your latest pictures. Another option would be turning on iCloud Photo Library. For help with these steps, see How to back up your devices using iCloud or iTunes and iCloud Photo Library FAQ.

    Sincerely.

I have an iPhone 6 with the latest update.

My issue is similar to this. Initially photo app would not see all the images just place holders. After instilling the latest iPhone update it now sees all the images. I can select images to import and all looks good but nothing happens. In addition when I cancel the import and try to close the Photo app I get a message that it is still importing. It takes a force quit to get out of the app.

Image capture did not appear to import either.

Whilst the suggestion to use image capture and another computer ( you do know how expensive your iMacs are right? like I have 2) they are work arounds to something that has until I went to ElCapitan a month ago worked fine.

    Please fix it

Just an update after an experiment this morning.

I decided to try again and just import 1 photo. It took some time but after about 90Sec the photo started to download.

It eventually showed in last down load and all looks good. I decided to up the ante and went for 10 so far I have waited 10 Mins and nothing! I will leave it until I get bored but it makes no sense.
